Shannon Farm in Bluestone Valley, VA

William Shannon Sr. bought large tracts of bluegrass grazing land in Bluestone Valley as early as 1803. This farm was built on the land and remained in the family until Mary Kate Shannon's death in 2003. Part of this land was deeded to Andrew Jackson Nash upon the death of Catlett Shannon and it became the location of the Nash Homestead.

Belongings left in the house when Mary Kate Shannon went into a nursing home have long since been removed or stolen. However, all of the farms' outbuildings remain standing.

The farm office is littered with trash where I found a 1950s edition of Life Magazine, as well as a Census record for John William Shannon. I also found several old receipts. If we had known at the time the land was still owned by the Shannons, we would have pilfered for longer.

Garage or carraige house.

Nat & Bill Worley lived in this house. They were farmhands that arrived at the farm when they were young. No one knows where they came from, but they lived there all their lives on the farm and died there. No one knows Nat's last name.

Just a few of the farm buildings still standing in the bottom of the valley.
